The transport of holiday homes poses issues for the gas appliances and connected pipework. Leaks can develop on joints whilst in transit.

If the unit purchased is not new (used) then it would make even more sense to have the whole gas system inspected.

If the unit is new, the warranty will be voided if this service is not carried out by a qualified gas engineer.

All static caravans have some kind of water heating system. More than 95% will be gas fuelled.

If yours doesn't have central heating (Combi boiler) then it will have a stand alone water heater.

Most existing instantaneous water heaters in caravan holiday homes are of the open-flued type with a permanent pilot.

Some common earlier models were:

Modern lpg water heaters don't have a permanent pilot light; the pilot lights automatically when a hot tap is opened.

These newer models, like the one opposite, also have more safety devices, making them more attractive to users.

Many mobile and park homes have central heating fitted. This will usually be in the form of a gas fired combi boiler on lpg.

Brilliant when they're working well, but due to their constant use and dependency they require regular servicing to stay in good working order.

Common issues with combi's in statics:

As a Morco approved engineer, I have been trained to service and repair their models that are fitted in holiday homes.

I have also attended Worcester training on some of their older model boilers.

If you have a static caravan with just a water heater, providing there's room in the cupboard you could this replaced with a combi and have a full heating system installed.

Static caravans get cold in the winter months. A gas fire alone is unlikely to keep it warm enough to inhabit.

Some caravan holiday homes were fitted with double glazing, underfloor insulation and then just a small multipoint heater in a cupboard ?! In my opinion these are the best model caravans to retro fit central heating, as you would get the most benefit.

What's more, a combi boiler will deliver more hot water with flow rates up to 12 litres a minute (depending on model)

So if you have one of these units above, and you intend to use it during the Winter months, why not consider upgrading the heating system ? It's a lot cheaper than replacing the holiday home.

Closed flue gas fires in static caravans were popular in the slightly older models.

Due to their design and nature, they require servicing by someone trained and competent to work on them.
